‘Winds of Change’
Winds of Change reimagines Cyclone Tracy from an abstract aerial view as it approached Darwin on Christmas Eve 1974, echoing the city’s more recent experience with Cyclone Fina in November 2025.
Through swirling colour and layered mixed-media movement, the artwork captures both the storm’s wild beauty and its hidden effects on the community below. The contrast between the destructive winds and the quiet eye becomes a symbol of change—challenging yet hopeful. Each stroke suggests winds that dismantle the old while opening space for renewal.
This piece reflects that even at the height of chaos, transformation is already forming. Winds of Change honours Darwin’s resilience and its ongoing journey of rebuilding and evolution over the past 50 years.
