‘Never Tear Us Apart’ : A Tribute to Michael Hutchence
This is the eighth painting in my ‘Rock Gods’ Series which is a tribute to all the male musicians who, even in death, continue to this day to have an impact on me in some way or another either through their extreme artistic talents, lyrics, melodies, charisma, or just who they are / were.
Their music is also very nostalgic for me.
Michael was one of Australia’s greatest singers and performers as the frontman for the band INXS. He expressed the music in a dynamic way few others could. Michael had it all – charisma, a seductive voice, good looks, and sexual prowess. He could seduce any woman with a look, or even just with his body movements.
My very first ‘single’ that I bought with my own money was “I Need You Tonight”, and I played this constantly. This was followed with the album “Kick” and then a foray into their past albums.
The album Kick shattered international charts and earned the group their first double platinum in the US.
“Never Tear Us Apart” was on this album, and it is one of my all-time favourite songs sung by Michael, so it’s a very fitting title for this painting.
