Purple Rain : A Tribute to Prince
This is the sixth painting in my ‘Rock Gods’ Series which is a tribute to all the male musicians who, even in death, continue to this day to have an impact on me in some way or another either through their extreme artistic talents, lyrics, melodies, charisma, or just who they are / were.
Their music is also very nostalgic for me.
Prince is widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians of his generation, but in my view, he transcends all generations!
He was flamboyant, androgynous and had an amazing vocal range. He was an all-round musician, often playing most or all the instruments on his recordings, incorporating a wide variety of styles which included funk, R&B, rock, new wave, soul and many more music genres.
From 1993, he was known as “The Artist Formally Known As Prince”, “The Artist” or the “Love Symbol” due to a contractual dispute with his record company, but he changed his name back to Prince in 1998.
Prince released 39 albums over his life, however it is Purple Rain that is one of my favourite albums of ALL TIME, as is the song of the same name.
Vale Prince
May you Rest In Peace, but your music and influence live on forever.
